For many years, the Nordic countries have been at the forefront of promoting and protecting the rights of children. However, many of these nations saw a gap in protection of children in 2015 when they experienced an influx of refugee children. Many children fleeing to the Nordic countries were not afforded the basic human right protections international conventions and national laws entitle them to.

The research presented in this study by UNICEF’s Innocenti Research Centre assesses how the Nordic nations responded to the movement of asylum-seeking children in 2015 and onwards, highlighting both best practices and areas of improvement.
