‘Exit Routes’ is an initiative taken by Save the Children Canada and funded by the Canadian Government to help achieve some of the commitments towards finding lasting solutions against the sexual exploitation of youth, made at the International Summit on Sexually Exploited Youth held in Victoria, March 1998, involving the participation of some 126 countries and 55 sexually exploited youth from the Americas. With ‘Exit Routes’, Save the Children Canada is to help children and youth exit the sex trade and prevent others from entering it. This is accomplished by providing positive role models of young people who have successfully exited the sex trade. In turn, they are helping others. An Exit Route Manual on services available to youth in Vancouver has been developed and will be tested by youth seeking to leave the trade. Their feedback will be provided to social agencies to help improve services for those who want out.
