Childhood on Hold: Voices of Children and their Caregivers Evacuated to Poland from Institutional Care in Ukraine (2025)

This report compiles the lived experiences and perspectives of children and caregivers who were evacuated from Ukrainian institutions to Poland following Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022. Along with these accounts, the study incorporates the perspectives of child protection professionals who have worked with these groups.

The goal is not to conduct a representative study, but rather to provide a platform for these narratives, closely listening to how children describe their lives, how adults interpret and respond to their needs, and how professionals perceive the limitations and potential of the system.

Niniejszy raport stanowi kompilację doświadczeń i perspektyw dzieci oraz opiekunów, którzy zostali ewakuowani z ukraińskich placówek do Polski po rozpoczęciu pełnoskalowej inwazji Rosji w lutym 2022 r. Oprócz tych relacji, badanie uwzględnia również perspektywy specjalistów ds. ochrony dzieci, którzy pracowali z tymi grupami.

Celem raportu nie jest przeprowadzenie reprezentatywnego badania, ale raczej stworzenie platformy dla tych narracji, uważne wysłuchanie opisów życia dzieci, interpretacji i reakcji dorosłych na ich potrzeby oraz postrzegania ograniczeń i potencjału systemu przez specjalistów.
