Women’s Work: Mothers, children and the global childcare crisis

This publication highlights the hidden crisis the world is facing in childcare. Written by The Overseas Development Institute, the report identifies the severe shortcomings of current early childhood care and education programming in meeting the needs of the world’s children under the age of five.

The report and summary explores the current childcare policy failures across a range of case-study countries, including Viet Nam, Gaza, Mexico, India, and Ethiopia. Based on the findings, the authors make six policy recommendations to extend and improve care-related labour market policies, promote more integrated approaches to social protection; and to invest in better data.
