Uprooted highlights the situation of the thousands of unaccompanied or separated children (UASCs) moving across borders from Central America into Mexico. The study is based on a mixed research methodology, involving group discussions with 200 UASC and individual interviews with 72 UASC at detention centers in Mexico City and Tapachula in 2013.
The data obtained reveals that the forced displacement of Central Americans is multi-causal and usually involves interrelated factors: mainly violence, family separation, and economic deprivation.
The original, complete report is available Spanish, however, a one-pager English translation is available.
