Save the Children International

As part of Save the Children’s 2022–2024 strategy, we are seeking to fill a global knowledge gap in the development sector: How do we measure learning remotely to evaluate what distance learning approaches work best for children?

In 2021, we innovated the Remote Assessment of Learning (ReAL) toolkit to provide the sector with a valid and reliable way to evaluate the most effective remote learning approaches, specifically based on children’s ability to read, complete basic math, and demonstrate social-emotional skills. It is the first of its kind. This short document lays out the four integrated components of the ReAL project and shares the ultimate vision – to launch ReAL as an open-source ‘global good’ for all in 2023.
