Save the Children Sweden

120 children and young people living in family homes were surveyed by Save the Children Sweden to find out how they perceive their involvement in the child welfare system. The results are discouraging. 65 per cent declare that as a rule they do not meet their social worker in private when he/she visits their home, and only 6 per cent feel that they have had the opportunity to freely express themselves to a social worker without a family member present. Less than one fourth of the surveyed children believe that social welfare authorities actually do keep track of the situation of children in foster family homes. An increased understanding and awareness of these issues can be used to improve the quality of service delivery to children living in family homes.
