This paper is part of a series of bridging papers looking at different points of the 5-year Action Plan for Collaboration from a child rights perspective. It analyses the gender dimension in migration, whether women or girls have migrated themselves or remained in their countries of origin.
In the context of international migration, there are few policies aimed specifically at protecting the rights of women and girls. Gender-based discrimination, as one of the root causes for migration, is exacerbated through the migration process and in the conditions in which they live and work in countries of destination. Migrant girls face even more challenges and threats based on their migratory status, age, and gender.
