This guidance aims to help civil society organisations make the most of the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child’s (ACERWC) reporting process to strengthen the protection of children’s rights affected by environmental and climate change issues. It provides essential background on how to effectively engage in the reporting process, ensuring that environmental and climate change issues are meaningfully integrated into monitoring, reporting, and “follow-up” advocacy. It complements other tools, such as the ACERWC State and civil society reporting guidelines, and provides clear guidance on how to report, advocate, and raise awareness on these issues.

Part 1 focuses on the “WHAT”, while parts 2,3 and 4 focus on the “HOW” , taking you step- by- step through the various stages of reporting, monitoirng and “follow-up” advocacy.

This guidance was developed under the umbrella of the How to Child Rights series, by Save the Children and the African Children’s Charter Project consortium. Its development was highly consultative involving over 100 individuals working on child rights and/or environmental protection and climate change in Africa.
