World Vision and VisionFund International commissioned this external review of published research on economic strengthening in order to document what outcomes have arisen for children, exploring child well-being outcomes from the various approaches that comprise resilient livelihoods interventions.
The review illustrates that an increase in household income inarguably improves health, nutrition and education outcomes for children. However, success depends upon a range of factors, particularly the mechanism and context for the income increase.
Overall, the review finds a significant knowledge gap in the exploration of the linkages between a particular livelihoods approach and child well-being. A growing research interest amongst donors in understanding these linkages is hoped to enrich the available research.
