Save the Children

Save the Children has created a toolkit focused on ways to support children with disabilities in rural communities
throughout the United States. The toolkit is designed to increase the engagement of children with disabilities in
their community programs and organizations. It draws on research and best practices to outline methods to find
relevant partnerships within the community, specific activities and events to support and include children with
disabilities, and recommendations to expand accessibility of programming to all community members.
This toolkit focuses on disability awareness building and inclusive practices, but also includes discussion of how
to support all children by leading with compassion and flexibility.

The toolkit includes specific activities for mobile units and programming, locally led event recommendations,
discussion of why inclusion is best practice, and answers to frequently asked questions. All specific
recommendations provide step by step instructions to community leaders and collaboratives.
