Save the Children Germany

Refugees seeking protection in Germany are now increasingly being accommodated in so-called emergency shelters again. These are often buildings that were intended for other purposes and fall well below minimum standards for refugee accommodation. Children, young people and their families are being put under varied and high levels of stress in these accommodations.

This checklist is intended to help operators and staff deal with this issue, and if necessary, to quickly initiate measures to improve the situation. It is aimed at shelters where people stay for approximately 24 to 48 hours. This quality measurement tool reviews and assesses compliance with children’s rights in refugee shelters in even greater detail.
