Save the Children Iraq
For years, children with disabilities in Iraq faced legislative gaps that denied them access to quality education. But in a groundbreaking victory, Save the Children (SC) successfully advocated for critical amendments to Law 38, ensuring schools welcome every child. On April 15, 2024, the Iraqi parliament voted to remove barriers that once prevented children with disabilities from advancing beyond grade 6, marking a transformative step toward inclusive education.
Building on this momentum, SC is set to pilot an Inclusive Education model in five schools across Baghdad and Erbil. This model, designed by disability inclusion experts, strengthens school governance, teacher training, and infrastructure to create a truly inclusive learning environment. With continued collaboration with the Ministry of Education and key partners, SC is driving lasting change to ensure every child in Iraq has an equal right to learn.
