America’s Youngest Outcasts: A report card on child homelessness

America’s Youngest Outcasts examines the state of child homelessness in the United States based on federal data: the U.S. Department of Education’s count of homeless children in U.S. public schools and 2014 U.S. Census data. This data shows a number of alarming statistics: nearly 2.5 million children experienced homelessness in 2013 (1 in 30 children in the U.S.), children experiencing homelessness annually has increased by 8% nationally and by 10% in 13 states and the District of Columbia.

This report explores the major causes as well as a collection of effective responses that could be used to combat child homelessness as well as provide support for mothers and their families who suffer from the long-term effects of homelessness.
