UNICEF has appealed for almost US$2.2 billion to provide life-saving humanitarian assistance in 2014 to 85 million people, including 59 million children, who face conflict, natural disasters and other complex emergencies in 50 countries. Almost 40 per cent of the proceeds will be given to Syria and the surrounding region, to deliver life-saving assistance, including immunizations, water and sanitation, education, and child-protection. The report highlights the daily challenges faced by children in humanitarian crises, the support required to help them survive and thrive, and the results that are possible even in the most difficult circumstances. Financial support will enable UNICEF and partners to treat 2.7 million severely malnourished children, immunize 19 million children against measles, and ensure access to safe water for 23 million children. About 7 million children will receive access to education and 2 million children will receive psychosocial support.
