Office of the UN Special Representative of the Secretary General on Violence against Children
The protection of children from the impact of armed violence in the community is of great concern for the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Violence against Children. Work is continuously pursued in cooperation with a wide range of actors.
Armed violence in communities is a widespread, complex phenomenon that has an extremely detrimental effect on childhood. To address arising concerns from the global community, the Special Representative organized, with UNICEF and partners, an international expert consultation on violence against children in the community. This meeting, held in 2015, provided the foundation to this report on the protection of children from armed violence in the community.
Not only does the report provide detailed information on the factors contributing to armed violence in the community and its impact on children, but it also outlines specific strategies for protecting children and ensuring they have a safe and nurturing environment in which to grow.
