We often hear the statement that ”children are the future” – but what if children themselves had the opportunity to say how they want to shape the world?  The 2015 Millennium Development Goals (MDG) are coming to an end. The debate about what will replace the MDGs in 2015 is ongoing – and will continue for another two years.

In order to create meaningful child and youth participation in the consultations on their priorities for change, Save the Children in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) and World Vision have joined forces to produce this child friendly version of the report “A new global partnership: Eradicate poverty and transform economies through sustainable development”, by the UN High-Level Panel of Eminent Persons on the Post-2015 Development Agenda. This child friendly version makes it easier to understand the contents of the original document and encourages children and young people to get involved in the consultations

So far there have been four national consultations throughout the region  – in Colombia, Nicaragua, Paraguay and Mexico – with groups of children and adolescents aged 12-17.  Each consultation has produced video-clips with statements made by the children, as well as a one-page declaration on the post-2015 Agenda. Additional consultations are planned to take place in Peru, Bolivia, El Salvador, Chile and Uruguay.

The foreword to this document has been written by Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan, UNICEF’S Eminent Advocate of Children.
