Last resort or first resort? Immigration detention of children in the UK

BID and The Children’s Society have published a new report on the detention of children for immigration purposes, titled ‘Last resort or first resort? Immigration detention of children in the UK. The report follows a year of intensive campaigning in partnership with other organisations working to end child detention under the Coalition Government. Although the findings in this report relate to the treatment of children and families in detention in 2009, they remain relevant to the debate on immigration detention, and concerns that detention of children has continued into 2011 in the UK despite political committments to the contrary.
