This curriculum was developed with the DRC Ministry of Social Affairs (MINAS) and various key stakeholders involved in child protection in the DRC including UNICEF, War Child, the REEJER network of NGOs working with street-children, and other members of the National Child Protection Working Group. The course is based on a set of core para social worker competencies, that were adapted in-country in a participatory process, from the Global Social Service Workforce Alliance’s global core para-social worker (PSW) competencies. The training is organized into six modules that can be provided together or separately, depending on user needs.

Included in this training are the following resources:

  • Module One: Introduction to PSW functions as they relate to child protection in the DRC;
  • Module Two: Communication and listening;
  • Module Three: Understanding children’s and families basic rights, needs and strengths;
  • Module Four: Referral and case management;
  • Module Five: Working in the community;
  • Module Six: Self-development and planning;
  • Training guide;
  • Detailed instructions; and
  • Handouts for each session.

This training has been translated and adapted for English-speaking contexts under the title Training Course for Auxiliary Social Workers: HIV-sensitive child protection.
