Non-discrimination as a principle is explicitly established in the Convention on the Rights of the Child which holds that “the rights of all children, without exception of their race, color, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national, ethnic or social origin, property, disability, birth or other status, must be respected” , and ‘States must take all appropriate measures to ensure that the child is protected against all forms of discrimination’. Fighting against children’s discrimination is at the core of Save the Children Sweden’s tasks. Thus children and adolescents can fully exercise and enjoy their rights. However, this is far from the ideal. Children tend to be excluded merely because they are children. But if this were not enough, they are also frequently victims of many types of discrimination to which adults are subjected. As a result, children may be twice segregated. Save the Children’s Regional Programme for Latin America and the Caribbean’s goal is to fight against discrimination, and this survey is a first step in a comprehensive approach to this problem.
