Children on the move: Report by the Inter-Agency Working Group on Children on the Move

A first collective report prepared by the Inter-Agency Working Group on Children on the Move, formed in 2011. The report, published by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), is a collective effort by authors from the MAEJT (African Movement for Working Children and Youth), ILO-IPEC, IOM, Save the Children, Terre des Hommes and UNICEF. Preface is written by François Crépeau, current UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Migrants.

Millions of children migrate, both within and between countries, with or without their parents. This movement takes place usually under treacherous conditions, putting migrant children, especially unaccompanied and separated children, at an increased risk of economic or sexual exploitation, abuse, neglect and violence. This publication includes six articles by the Inter-Agency Working Group on Children on the Move with suggestions about the ways in which children can be protected more effectively when they move away from home and migrate. Collectively, the articles in this publication express the need for everyone to listen more carefully to the voices of children.
