Child Marriage Practices Among the Rohingya in Bangladesh

Child marriage is a significant threat faced by millions of girls each year. Marriage at young ages can pose multiple threats to young girls’ lives, health, and future prospects, including an increased risk of intimate partner violence, higher maternal mortality, and lower education levels. Despite global improvements in addressing child marriage, research suggests that there may be significant within-country variation due to contextual factors that exaggerate vulnerability for girls. These include conflict, displacement, and food insecurity.

Based on in-depth interviews and group discussions, this study examines child marriage practices among the Rohingya in Bangladesh.
