The RISE programme founded by IKEA Foundation aimed at building the organizational capacity of Syrian civil society organisations and their Child Protection programming. It focused on the internal capacity of the organisations themselves as well as their internal structures and staff capacity as well as child protection capacity. The programme allowed each organization the flexibility to tailor the activities to address the organisations own identified capacity needs.

Shafak is a Syrian-based organisation with high visibility and acceptance inside Syria. It works with 12 international non-governmental organization donors. Although its presence is high in Syria, it is not very well known internationally and has experienced great challenges within its internal structure in the last year, which need some rework and rebuilding.

The programme allowed Shafak to establish a strategic plan that placed organizational systems in place and enabled the organization to identify its weaknesses. This, in turn, enabled Shafak to establish PDQ/Grants & Compliance Department, which transformed Shafak’s working environment and resulted in huge changes.
