Can a Community Health Worker and a Trained Traditional Birth Attendant Work as a Team to Deliver Child Health Interventions in Rural Zambia?

The first of its kind, this study explores whether teaming can be a successful approach at the community level in developing countries. Teams of community health workers and traditional birth attendants were trained and studied over a period of two years. The study finds that, overall, teamwork was high across several indicators and that it is possible for community health workers and traditional birth attendants to work as a team, as one approach to providing a continuum of care for children under five, including newborns.
