Save the Children Italy
Child trafficking is one of the great tragedies of our time; it is widespread all over the world. Italy, like the rest of Europe, is not immune to it. The most devastating violations are against children, girls and adolescents fleeing from countries burdened by poverty, war, discrimination, gender inequality, and lack of access to education.
Trafficking is a serious violation of fundamental rights and is also an extremely profitable transnational crime. It bases its business model on the sale and purchase of women and men, girls and boys, who are treated as slaves with the sole purpose of sexual exploitation, work and in illegal economies. The growing “demand” continues to fuel the trade of vulnerable children.
