There are 60 million refugees, asylum-seekers, and internally displaced persons globally as the result of conflict and persecution–the highest number of displaced persons since the Second World War. Furthermore, the human and monetary costs of natural disasters that took many parts of the world by surprise in the last year, have put additional pressure on crisis response and recovery.
Current response effort structures and resources are not enough to respond to current disasters.CARE, International Rescue Committee, Mercy Corps, Oxfam America, Save the Children U.S., U.S. Fund for UNICEF, World Food Program USA, and the U.S. Institute of Peace joined together to review international relief efforts and compose recommendations for the international community to better meet the needs of people in crisis.
