Every year, thousands of adolescents learn that they will have to leave care to live on their own. For many, the transition from care to independence is destabilizing, increasing their sense of loneliness and insecurity – both financial and emotional.
This study is based on testimonies from 300 young people with care experience in Albania, the Czech Republic, Finland, and Poland. It demonstrates that care leavers are at high risk of deprivation and often lack the social support they require.
