Lack of education has become a major source of concern for Rohingya refugees living in the camps of Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh. The Government of Bangladesh restricts formal schooling for refugee children and youth, and humanitarian agencies navigate a highly politicized and complex context which reduces their efficiency in planing camp education. In an attempt to meet the needs of refugees and fill the gap in formal education, numerous refugee-led networks of community teachers have emerged.
This report seeks to identify the role of community-led education in the refugee community through surveys and interviews with different existing networks. It discusses the challenges these networks face, their views on education and students’ needs, as well as their perceptions of the current state of camp education.
