The present report by Human Rights Watch provides findings from in-depth interviews with asylum-seekers, government officials, local activists, and attorneys on the “Migrant Protection Protocols” Program in the United States and Mexico. Of the 15 079 asylum-seekers who were returned to Cuidad de Juarez, approximately 4 780 were children. Returnees face difficulty finding shelter, many cannot pay for food, and greater barriers receiving due process on their asylum claims.
The report sets out recommendations for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Congress, and the Government of Mexico.
