This study is the first comprehensive attempt in Kenya to assess progress in preventing and eliminating violence against children within the Kenya Juvenile Justice System. Hundreds of children found across 32 statutory institutions were interviewed and their reports are gathered, recounting the scale and extent of the multiple forms of violence they suffer across the very system mandated to provide for them adequate administration of justice, including corporal punishment, psychological and sexual abuse or neglect. Findings and recommendations of this report re-position the best interests of children at the top of the Kenya justice agenda, and help to inform the relevant actors in designing a coordinated violence against children (VAC) national response plan.
