Why are Save the Children Youth Sweden and Save the Children Sweden writing a report on norms regarding sexuality and gender identity? Although sex education is mandatory in Swedish schools in accordance with the Education Act, open discussions regarding sexuality and gender variance are relatively rare. And when the subject does come up in discussions, the issue is addressed within the context of heteronormativity. This report takes a rights-based approach to sexuality and gender diversity and seeks to empower students to develop critical thinking and help them become alert to gender issues.
