This research report investigates the unique challenges facing girls at the intersection between childhood and adulthood. Moreover, it strives to make adolescent girls more visible in policy and planning processes by investigating social norms as powerful influences that need to be better understood.
The report is based on a multi-year, multi-country study that explored the ways in which adolescent girls’ capabilities are shaped and/or constrained by gender discriminatory social norms, attitudes and practices, and how other overlapping and intersecting experiences of poverty, deprivation and exclusion serve to intensify and perpetuate vulnerabilities.
