While child marriage has been on the decline recent decades, there is a growing concern for its increased prevalence in crisis situations during conflict and natural disasters. The more typical underlying factors such as gender inequality and social norms, in combination with new factors such as protection risks and poverty, are leaving girls vulnerable in these settings.

This report by the Human Rights Center at UC Berkeley Law gathers learnings from both humanitarian and development contexts to determine what Save the Children and related organizations can do to improve their response to this rising problem in their programming. This is done through a literature review of existing studies, a mapping of current programming, and key informant interviews with child marriage prevention practitioners. Find recommendations enclosed within the report.
