The resilience of Suchana communities was put to the test once more by record-breaking flash floods in May and June 2022. Suchana’s MEAL & KM team conducted a Post-Flood Assessment 2022 a month after the June flood peaked to assess how programme participants were recovering after the flood. Through a quantitative survey, group discussions with participants, and interviews with key
local authorities delivering the Government’s response, the Assessment reveals that the magnitude of the disaster outweighed community flood preparedness and response, highlighting the need to develop more efficient early warning systems, and greater community vigilance. Food insecurity continues to be a key concern for the affected communities, indicating the need for emergency food support in addition to strengthening homestead food production. Although the flood has left a lasting impact, people are bouncing back. The knowledge and skills people developed from Suchana are giving them concrete next steps to rebuild livelihoods.
