Study of Community-based Child Protection Mechanisms in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo: Final report

War Child is a network of independent organisations working across the world to help children affected by war. Their aim is to alleviate the suffering of children by bringing material aid into war zones, support those children who have been evacuated into refugee camps, and initiate rehabilitation programmes once children return safely to their homes. This War Child UK-commissioned study gathers information from the field to learn about family and community-based child protection mechanisms and structures in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), within the framework of their overall programme to support conflict-affected children and to prevent further abuse and exploitation. The study aims to understand what works, how and why, and to elaborate the main lessons learnt regarding what does not work and the reasons for the limitations in the community’s ability to protect children and young people facing situations of violence and conflict.
