IREWOC, International Research on Working Children
IREWOC recently completed a research project on street children in Peru. One of the central objectives of the research was to reveal the faces and voices of street children and analyze their various backgrounds, relations to the streets and their perceptions of their situation. Coordinated by an IREWOC researcher, a qualitative comparative research between Lima and Cusco was carried out, in which local researchers conducted a survey among street-living and street-working children between the ages of 5-16, by means of questionnaires designed specifically for this research. The report ends with a summary of the main findings of the study and policy recommendations.
