According to Section 28 of the South African Constitution, every child has the right to a name and nationality from birth, family or parental care and basic nutrition, shelter and health care. Section 28 also states that every child has the right to protection from maltreatment and exploitative labor practices. However, these rights are not realized for all South African children.
In response to this, children in South Africa came together and created the South African Children’s Manifesto. It serves as a call upon national authorities to realize and monitor children’s rights in South Africa.
