Save the Children
Do Swedish politicians today have the solid knowledge and experience required to ensure that the international aid is relevant and that we as actors get the right tools and frameworks to meet the new challenges of today? With this in mind, Save the Children Sweden started an International Development Assistance Academy together with Swedish political youth federations. Our ambition is to raise the level of knowledge and appreciation of the sector with key young Swedish politicians who then can become the catalysts that we really need; partly for the general public debate, but related to how Sweden can develop its development assistance and become a global role-model with a strong voice. The academy’s focus is on traditional development assistance issues where participants during two meetings are given the opportunity to learn and discuss the themes such as the history, the different actors and their roles, how it actually makes a difference in people’s life’s, why early action against children is special important, as well as Save the Children’s core values and working methods. We also invite participants to a field trip to stimulate interest as well as create an understanding and appreciation about our fieldwork, both humanitarian and long term. We then conclude the work at Almedalen where we discuss the lessons learned and what Sweden should focus on the aid.
