This Annual Review showcases Save the Children’s achievements in 2009 in the framework of the organisation’s ambitious new global 2010-2015 strategy aimed at increasing the scope and scale of their work to change children’s lives by 2015. As part of this new strategy, Save the Children has embarked on the global campaign “EVERY ONE”, to save children’s lives by stopping the preventable deaths of 9 million children every year. 40 emergency responses were launched, reaching 25 million children and 1.4 million individuals donated to Save the Children, generating a global income of US$1.3 billion. Save the Children have scaled up the child protection delivery and worked to ensure that millions more children were healthy, safe and had the opportunity to learn, even in the midst of emergencies and conflict. Other key goals to meet for 2015 are to contribute significantly to saving the lives of 500,000 at-risk children every year, and influence governments to make the policy and political changes necessary to achieve Millennium Development Goal 4 and reduce the under-five mortality rate by two-thirds, within the context of the eight international development goals that all 192 United Nations member states and at least 23 international organisations have agreed to achieve by the year 2015. This Annual Review is an excellent tool for presenting Save the Children’s work across the world to partners and donors.
