Save the Children
In February 2013 Save the Children International (SCI) through the Basic and Non Formal Education program commissioned a baseline study to assess the reading skills of learners in Zomba Rural Education District. The baseline data collection was conducted for a “Tiwerenge ndi Ana Athu” (TiANA) project. TiANA is an improved version of Save the Children’s Literacy Boost which is an evidence based response to an alarming global trend in children’s reading ability. TiANA is an innovation under the All Children Reading Grand Challenge (USAID, World
Vision International and AusAid). The project intends to underline the role of parents and the community in making reading a reality for all children. The project will help to improve student writing and reading in the lower primary through innovative community-based production and use of teaching and learning materials, in accordance with its name which translates from Chichewa as “Let us read together with our children”.
