Promotion of Community-Led Improvement of Living Environment in Camps for Displaced Persons from Myanmar and the Host Communities in Cox Bazaar, Bangladesh

This report presents the findings of the JPF-9 Outcome Assessment implemented by Save the Children in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, focusing on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), menstrual hygiene management (MHM), and financial management among Rohingya refugee camps (17, 20, 25, and 27) and adjacent host communities in Ukhiya and Teknaf. Using a mixed-methods approach, the assessment combined quantitative household surveys with qualitative Focus Group Discussions to measure progress against key outcome indicators. Results indicate strong overall improvements in hygiene practices, exceeding project targets in both camps and host communities. Adolescent girls demonstrated moderate to high capacity in reusable sanitary pad preparation, though gaps persist due to limited access to materials. Refugee women showed significant gains in financial management knowledge, achieving full improvement across pre- and post-assessments. Despite notable achievements, challenges remain related to water scarcity, access to hygiene materials, infrastructure limitations, and seasonal constraints. The findings highlight the importance of sustained resource support, refresher training, and inclusive behavior change strategies to ensure long-term WASH outcomes and community resilience.
