This report explores the connection between the local private sector and humanitarian crises, with a special focus on Somalia and Yemen. Contrary to common belief, it preliminarily finds that the private sector is active in complex humanitarian emergencies. It finds areas of common ground that should be nurtured for a stronger connection between humanitarian and business communities. However, this connection needs to be studied further for a better understanding.
