What is discipline in the bible?
In the first testament, the word discipline comes from the Hebrew word “musar” which means: repression, education, instruction, teaching, punishment, advice, scholarship. In the second testament, this word comes from the Greek “paideía” which means: tutoring, guidance, training, education, teaching, instruction, correction.
So when “discipline” is spoken of in the Bible, it refers to training and the process of education and/or restoration. The discipline is: restoration, formation, advice, guidance, etc. And it is not: humiliation, submission or punishment.
