Today’s conflicts are increasingly complex and long-lasting. By 2030, it is estimated that over half of the worlds poor people will be living countries affected by high levels of violence and conflict. The consequences of such widespread violence will be devastating for all, and especially the world’s most marginalized communities,
This collaborative report by the United Nations and the World Bank is a response to the conviction that we must do more to prevent such a reality. This research aims to improve the way in which we understand the interaction between domestic development processes and conflict management tools, such as mediation, diplomacy, and security. It emphasizes factors related to exclusion, which is seen as the primary root cause of most conflicts today.
In light of Security Resolution on Youth, Peace, and Security (2250), youth are called upon as active participants in peace builders and conflict preventers. This is an aspect of peace that is covered in this study, read more about Youth Inclusion on page 119.
