Despite many years of partnership between international and local aid organizations, international organizations are often not aware of how violent conflict affects local and national civil society organizations. There is also a lack of understanding of how the actions of international organizations affect the prospects of sustainable peace, security and development on the local level. Ultimately, this decreases the effectiveness of humanitarian responses during conflict and crisis.
This report is based on research from conflict settings in Afghanistan, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and Kachin state in Myanmar. It aims to contribute to increased equality and effectiveness in partnerships between local and international organizations by highlighting areas of strain and tension, but also possible opportunities for improvement.
