Niños con discapacidad y abuso sexual – Estudio exploratorio en Perú y Paraguay

In 1999 Save the Children Sweden made an analysis of the situation of boys and girls with disabilities in Peru. The results indicate that boys, girls and adolescents with disabilities are exposed to higher risks of mental and physical abuse, both within the family unit and in their daily social environment context. The quoted testimonies in the study reveal many cases of physical punishment, exploitation, abandonment, etc. These findings, together with other basic indicators, were the reason behind Save the Children Sweden´s decision to launch the exploratory study “Los Niños y Niñas con Discapacidad y el Abuso Sexual” , a theme surrounded by prejudice and social taboos.
