In order to better understand newborn care in humanitarian settings – and to better plan and programme for future responses – it is necessary to understand current policies and practices. This study employed a snow ball sampling technique of humanitarian response organizations to identify current policies and practices aimed at providing healthcare services for children and mothers in humanitarian settings.
The study identifies several barriers that exist in providing comprehensive maternal and newborn care, including: funding shortages, gaps in training, and staff shortages and turnover.
