Adolescence and early adulthood are critical phases in human development. For migrants and refugee youth and their families, the immediate impact of conflict is not solely the inability to meet basic needs – there is also a significant emotional upheaval from experiencing violence and forced migration. For young people, a failure to address persistent levels of stress from exposure to trauma can have long-term physical, emotional and cognitive effects.
This report evaluates Mercy Corp’s Advancing Adolescents program operated in Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq. The aim of the program was to improve young refugees’ mental health and psychosocial well-being.
