Measuring Adverse Child Experiences Among Young Adolescents Globally: Relationships with depressive symptoms and violence perpetration

This study aimed to develop a measure of Adverse Child Experiences (ACEs) applicable for young adolescents in low- and middle-income countries. Furthermore, it analysed the relationship of ACEs against two outcomes: depressive symptoms and violence perpetration. Findings from the study showed that young adolescents in resource-poor neighbourhoods in low- and middle-income countries are experiencing high rates of ACEs exposure. In addition, there were disproportionate exposures of boys and strong associations between ACEs and both depressive symptoms and violence perpetration.
