A Manual on Disaster Prevention and Response for Children and Adolescents in Nicaragua, prepared with a holistic focus on the human rights of children and adolescents as the primary victims of disasters. Nicaragua is a country at risk and environmentally vulnerable to natural phenomena. Tectonic plate movements cause earthquakes and tsunamis, the country ’s geographical location makes it susceptible to hurricanes and flooding, its active chain of volcanoes implies eruptions and landslides, and environmental degradation has destroyed flora and fauna and significantly reduced biodiversity. Hence, this Manual is aimed at promoting greater participation by all social actors in community plans for risk reduction and the protection and participation of children and adolescents in disaster situations
